Jeff and I have decided to post a family blog. Now that our adoption is complete, we thought a family site would be more appropriate than an adoption group. So, here we are.
We've had the kids for nearly a month now, and our life has changed completely. Our daily soundtrack is now the ABC song from the LeapFrog "Fridge Phonics" which the kids got for Christmas (thanks Tony and Nicki!). We've even come to appreicate the little musical horn interlude the folks at LeapFrog have included between the letters V and W. We are also learning more and more Russian, as the kids learn more and more English. Unfortunately, our kids use the "F-word" at an alarming rate. No, it's not what you are thinking. The F-word in our house is "Foo!" ("gross!" in Russian). This word is most often heard at mealtimes, although it is also shouted from the bathroom on occasion. Even if we didn't know what this word meant, the scrunching of the face which generally accompanies it would send the message loud and clear.
Things are going well though, all in all. We're beginning to get a routine down and are adjusting to our lives as parents. There are some mysteries which still need to be solved however. For example, yesterday Vika threw a wonderful tantrum because the socks which she had put on just that morning were a bit dirty on the bottom by lunchtime. This child wore the same dress for 5 days straight in the orphanage, but now that she's in America, one pair of socks a day is just not enough! Why?
And how is it that both kids knew instinctively that they wanted Danimals drinkable yogurt? They don't have this in Russia. As far as I know, the kids had never seen it before our trip to the grocery store. Yet they knew that they wanted it, and they knew it was yogurt. Chocolate pudding is also a favorite.
Jeff and I are settling into our new family life more and more every day. Our journey to Russia may be over, but it seems the adventure is only beginning...

This is so great! I was hoping you would find a way to continue web communication (even though I'm lucky enough to be able to see the kids fairly regularly). This is an adventure for all of us! It's been many years since I've had play toys in my bathtub!
This is great Jenni! Keep it up. It's so nice to hear about the wonderful adventure you took and the new adventure of parenthood your are taking now. I love the pictures!
