Yosemite - when it rains, it pours!

This weekend, Jeff, the kids and I drove to Yosemite to visit some friends who were camping in the park. Now, I don't camp unless absolutely necessary (and really, is it ever absolutely necessary?), so we booked a room at a nearby lodge and then headed into the Valley to meet Mel, the Chads, Jaime and Patrick. It was raining a bit on the way up, but luckily the rain stopped as we entered the park. We met our friends, rented some bikes and a bike trailer for the kids, and had a wonderful couple of hours riding around the park.

Here is Yosemite Falls in the rain. Notice that you can see very little of the actual falls. Half Dome and El Capitan also hid from us during our bike tour of the park.

After returning the bikes, we headed out to the campsite for dinner. That's when the rain started up again. And this was no small pitter patter. It POURED. We all scrambled to get the food and our possessions under the relative safety of the tent, and then watched as the guys stood in the rain, cooking our dinner. It was a cold, wet evening, but we still had a nice time hanging out together. I must admit though, that I was very relieved to check into our warm, dry hotel room that night!

Despite the rain, we had a nice little getaway weekend. Vika and Eamon loved Yosemite and had a great time meeting new friends. Fortunately, the rain let up enough on Sunday that we were able to see Half Dome, El Capitan, and Yosemite Falls. However, the kids were more excited by the coyote, family of deer, and numerous squirrels which we also spotted during our brief stay in the park.
