In Xanadu
What do you do when it is summer repeat season, and the only shows recorded on your TiVo are episodes of "Little Einsteins" and "Lazy Town?" You browse through your On-Demand free movies, of course! Jeff and I found ourselves doing this the other night, and what little gem should appear, but that rocking, 1980's roller-disco musical, Xanadu. Come on people! I know you remember this one! Who could forget Gene Kelly dancing on roller skates? And Olivia Newton-John cruising around in a flash of yellow light? Jeff had never seen the movie before, and I hadn't seen it since, well, 1980. Basically, all I remembered of the film were women, surrounded by colorful light, coming out of a wall mural. That and roller skates.
Xanadu was much funnier than I remembered. Not intentionally funny, of course, but funny in the, "Oh my God, that is so 80's!" kind of way. If you get a chance, check it out. I recommend trying to get the movie for free, as we did, because most likely, you will find yourself fast-forwarding through the dialog scenes and going right to the musical numbers. "Dancin'" is a favorite of ours because the 80's rock band is so frickin' hilarious! Throw every cliche you can think of together with tomato orange jumpsuits, and you've got a rockin' good time! I like the "All Over the World" number as well, although I was a bit horrified by the image of Gene Kelly (a particular favorite of mine) in a fringed, cream leather cowboy costume... *shudder* It just didn't fit with the debonair image I have of him from "Singin' in the Rain."
The only problem now is that I can't get the dang songs off my mind. So, I guess a word of caution is that if you do watch the movie, be prepared to have Olivia Newton-John skating around in your head singing "You have to believe we are magic! Nothing can stand in our way."

WHAT?!?! Xanadu is on On Demand? I'm checking RIGHT NOW. Seriously, this movie is a huge guilty pleasure of mine. OMG. No! We just canceled Encore, so I can't watch it.

I was totally thinking of you when I watched the movie Cath! I may have to purchase that soundtrack. So, how many of the songs from Xanadu do you have on your iPod? :)
