Disney Memories

Here's a picture of Joe and I with our Uncle Tony back in 1978. We were 5 years old and it was our first time ever visiting Disneyland.

We would visit many more times over the years - visits that would stick much more in my memory. However, there are a few things I remember of this trip. I remember loving our Mickey Mouse T-shirts and thinking it was so cool that we were dressed like our Uncle Tony. I also remember excitedly dragging poor Tony from one park attraction to the next. And finally, I have a memory that is not Disney related, but occurred during the same trip to Southern California. We were at the beach, and the three of us were standing on the shore, letting the waves lap at our feet. Being Arizona kids, this was just about the most amazing thing ever. I was so amazed, in fact, that I kept gazing down at my feet, watching the current move in and out. Next thing I knew, I had fallen over into the water, my sense of balance completly thrown off by the image of the "ground" moving beneath me. I think there is even a picture of me somewhere, taken after the fall, with wet shorts and scraggly hair, looking miserable.

While my memories of this vacation are few, my mom recalls the trip with great fondness. She maintains that there is nothing quite like seeing the joy on your kids' faces as they experience Disney for the first time.

Why the trip down memory lane? Well, in just a few short days, Jeff and I will be taking Vika and Eamon to Disney World. Yes, I know... we live in California and Disneyland is right there. But since Jeff has some real estate business to attend to in Orlando, I figured the kids and I would tag along for a nice family vacation.

Having so many fond childhood memories of Disneyland and Disney World myself, I cannot wait to experience it with our kids. It is such a magical place for me, even as an adult, and I hope that my kids will be touched by some of that same magic as well.

Another funny thing about the trip is that my good friend Catheroo and her boyfriend (e) are going to be there at the same time as us! It really is a small world after all! : )

So, here's to wishing upon stars and singing "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah" as cute woodland animals frolic at your feet. We're going to Disney World!

It is definitely going to be a memorable trip. Looking forward to seeing you there. Don't use up all the magic before we get there.

We moved to Tucson when I was 10 and my first trip to Disneyland was one year after it opened! We would "go to California" almost every other summer during my childhood, and I took the kids there as often as I could when they were growing up. In fact, I was determined that they would spend their 10th birthday (the double-digit one was tough for me!!) at Disneyland!! So my daughter had no choice but to grow up a Disneyland junkie like me. And we have high hopes for Vika and Eamon!!! Jenni and Jeff have such a treat in store for them watching those little eyes light up....
