Hello, from Blythe, California

This is where we have stopped to sleep before continuing on to Arizona tomorrow. There's not much here, really. It's hot, dry, and pretty barren (sorry to any readers from Blythe who may be offended by my lack of enthusiasm for your town).

I did see an old man riding a bike with two dogs in a crate attached to the back and a 3 week old kitten sharing the seat with him. That was interesting. We also had dinner at a greasy spoon that served a fairly decent fish sandwich. So, Blythe does have some things to offer the weary road tripper. But by far, the biggest lure is a bed for the night.

The kids did a great job on the road today! They only asked, "Are we there yet?" about 6 times, and surprisingly enough, there were no fights (!!!). I tell you what, portable DVD players are well worth every cent! We only let the kids watch 2 movies, but the promise of those movies kept them on their best behavior the whole day.

Eamon did get concerned at one point that he may not be able to walk again because, as he said, "My butt really hurts!" That was our cue to pull over at the next rest stop and let the kids run around. Between that, the coloring books, and the movies, Vika and Eamon were pretty much entertained the whole ride.

Now we are off to bed for some much needed rest before we get on the road again tomorrow. If I can get the A/C unit in the room to work, then we'll really be set (I think it's about 101 degrees outside!).

I agree that those DVD players are so important on long car trips. We actually bought a little TV that plugs into the car on one trip (we were half way there) when the kids were out of control.
