Big Man on Campus

Eamon has been doing beautifully at preschool. Despite the fact that every morning he says, in his serious voice, "I'm going to miss you Mama, when I'm at school," he loves his teachers and the friends he has made. He also loves that he is learning new things. Each evening at dinner, he tells us excitedly about his day, gasping between strings of words because he is talking so fast that he forgets to breathe.

Picking Eamon up is an amusing experience too. First of all, he is always a sweaty mess. That boy plays HARD on the school playground. Secondly, since I generally pick him up around evening snack time, he winds up shoving the food into his mouth as fast as he can, all the while watching me out of the corner of his eye to see how much time he has left before I make him pack his stuff to go. And then, once we finally do start to leave, he has to make the rounds to all his little friends. He gives hugs and sometimes kisses to the kids in his pre-K group. Then he goes around to all the littler kids, rubbing their backs and bending over to look into their faces as he says goodbye. He does this with an affectionate, brotherly smile, and the little kids eat it up. As we leave the school, we are followed by a chorus of "Bye Eamon!!!" from children and staff alike.

The teachers have told me that Eamon is a "really cool kid," but I thought they were just humoring me. What parent wouldn't like to hear that their kid is cool (especially when he is wearing orange and navy striped socks with gray shorts)? However, after seeing the way he takes care of the toddlers at his school, I see that Eamon really is a cool kid! Maybe not in a Danny Zucco kind of way, but cool nonetheless.

Well done Eamon. You've made your Mama and Papa proud.
