The Lightsaber has been Passed
Growing up, I was a HUGE fan of Star Wars. In fact, I still am. Of the original 3, that is. The newer movies, not so much. Who didn't love Han Solo, and Yoda, and Boba Fett (my personal favorite)? Then, there was the ominous Darth Vader, who both scared and fascinated me at the same time. I remember seeing the original Star Wars in the theater when I was 4 years old, and meeting Darth Vader at the local mall shortly after. My brother Joe and I were both in awe of the larger-than-life figure, dressed all in black, breathing heavily before us. It was an experience that sealed itself in my childhood memory.
Now, the torch (or rather, lightsaber) has been passed. We showed our kids "Star Wars" in November, and Eamon has been talking about it ever since. While he barely remembers Luke Skywalker or Han Solo's names, Darth Vader certainly made an impression. He insisted that he wanted to be Darth Vader when he grew up, "but a nice Darth Vader, not a mean one!" (in his words). So, for Christmas, Santa brought him a dual-color lightsaber that can be blue, for young Anakin, or red, for the evil Vader. He also got an Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber from his relatives in Chicago, and a Darth Vader costume from Babushka.

This morning, I saw him practicing his fencing skills with the lightsaber in his room. You know what, the kid's got skills! Maybe he will grow up to be a Jedi after all.
I wonder if I can find him a pair of Boba Fett underoos, like I had as a child?

I have never seen the Star Wars films. Apparently my parents raised me in a box or something.
Apparently my husband was raised in the same box - never saw them - makes me wonder how the heck I ever married the man. I love the original three too! I can only hope seamonkey will love them eventually too.
Let's not forget the Christmas duel with Eamon and his father, Jeff. With Jeff saying "I am your Father" in his best Darth Vader voice. Ah, Christmas memories.
How cute is he! My husband is dying to show our 4 year old the series. He is a HUGE fan.
The new movies aren't nearly as good as the original. Harrison Ford? Even when I was in grade school, I knew he was good looking!
"Boba Fett? Boba Fett? Where?"
I loooooooove Star Wars! I don't even count those other movies that claim to be of the same name. Rubbish. All special effects and no plot. As a little kindred spirit of mine said,as we walked out of an eerily quiet theatre after the midnight opening showing of "episode one", "There wasn't any TEAM in this movie."
Way to pass the saber!
I don't remember who Boba Fett was. Do they still make underoos?
This is Boba Fett:
Boba Fett
He was the bounty hunter who captured Han Solo, and he had a jet pack, which made him ultra-cool (in my 6 year old mind).
My kids are crazy about Star Wars. Their dad knows a thing or two about it too. My only reference point is Spaceballs. My kids scoff at my ignorance.
My husband and sons are huge Star Wars fans! I mean HUGE!
