The Phone! The Phone is Ringing!
(sung with the same urgency as the Viking Elmer Fudd sings in Looney Tunes)
This is how nearly ever episode of The Wonder Pets, a mini-operetta geared towards preschoolers, begins. I have to say, I love this show (which is probably a sign that I need to rejoin the workforce and have some adult time)!
The Wonder Pets follows the escapades of Turtle Tuck, Linny the Guinea Pig and Ming-Ming Duckling, three classroom pets who moonlight as globetrotting rescuers, traveling the world to save baby animals in distress. With a score composed by some of Broadway's preeminent composers, it's no wonder the songs keep getting stuck in my head!
Wonder Pets! Wonder Pets!
We're on our way!
To help a baby dolphin
and to save the day!
We're not too big,
and we're not too tough,
but when we work together
we've got the right stuff!
Vika and Eamon are digging this show too, and the theme of teamwork has helped encourage them to work together around the house. My singing in an operatic tone, "Your room! Your room needs cleaning!" doesn't hurt either. :) The producers are trying to get Stephen Sondheim on board for Season 2. That should be interesting! I never thought I'd see the day when Sondheim would do something for children (those of you have seen the well-endowed Big Bad Wolf chasing after Little Red Riding Hood in "Into the Woods" know what I mean).
