A Peak Experience

Yesterday, between bouts of rain, Jeff and I decided to take the kids on a mini-hike up one of the local peaks. A peak in California is much different than the peaks that surrounded me during my childhood in Arizona. They are simply hills with a top that is slightly pointy, rather than gently curved. Not very majestic, but perfect for a hike with a 4 and 5 year old.

We trudged up the hill, dodging cattle families and cow patties, until we got to a nice outcropping of rocks with a lookout bench. Vika and Eamon had a great time climbing around, while Jeff and I sat and enjoyed the view. Unfortunately, before too long, the rain clouds started rolling back in, and we had to cut our hike short.

The hike was fun, but the soreness I feel in my lower regions today tells me that I've gotten a bit out of shape during the past year. It is so hard to find time to exercise with two kids running around. Hopefully we can do more mini-outings like this, which combine fun, outdoor activities with exercise.
