Re-Adoption Day!
Not flesh of my flesh, nor bone of my bone
But still, miraculously, my own
Never forget for a single minute
You didn't grow under my heart, but in it
But still, miraculously, my own
Never forget for a single minute
You didn't grow under my heart, but in it
Vika and Eamon are now doubly ours! We re-adopted them with the State of California today, in a hearing which was much more emotional than I expected. The judge was wonderful with us and the kids, and when she read the above poem to me (which is printed on Vika and Eamon's very official Certificates of Family Membership), I completely welled up.
Other than some confusion about which court room we were in (for some reason, adoptions were held in the Criminal Department - scary!), and some outdated forms which we had to re-do, things went really well. Eamon was his usual goofy self, and charmed the judge and the bailiff. Vika was also a hit with the court personnel, mostly because she kept checking up on everything they were doing (she's definitely manager material). The court stenographer even let her push some of the buttons on the stenography thingy (not the technical name). Hopefully, in a few weeks, we will receive Vika and Eamon's official California birth certificates. Even though the re-adoption is really just a formality, it felt great to get it done. Mom and Ed (my step-father) joined us at the hearing as well, and having them present at this adoption hearing made the occasion even more special.
Vika and Eamon signing their adoption orders (not legally necessary, but the judge let them do this to be more involved in the process - she was awesome!)

Oh. that is so sweet. And I love the photos of Vika and Eamon signing their papers. Even though it was just a formality, I think it's very cool that you did it.
What a great day! And, what a great judge.
Those of you who may know Jenni know that she doesn't "well up" very often. So if she "welled up", you can just imagine what I was doing! While sobbing might be too strong a word, it's pretty close! A very special day for all of us.
What a great day. So glad you all had a great time. How special that they were able to sign their adoption orders. That is priceless for them.
Congratz!
You guys are a gorgeous family!!
Congratulations. I think it's wonderful that the judge let Vika and Eamon sign the papers -- it made it their decision, something they had ownership of. Just look at Eamon's beaming smile. It's enough to bring tears to the eyes!
I am so happy for you. Congratulations. I love it that they got to sign it. We eventually want to do the same. Who do you contact for that? Just an adoption Lawyer?
We went through our homestudy agency, who helped us file the re-adoption paperwork (they did it in conjunction with our post-placement visits).
Congratulations! I think the kids got a kick out of the day, probably made them feel very special. Anyone who gets to sign forms does!
AHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Congratulations, what a wonderful day!
Congrats!! How awesome that she let them sign too.
I have all the paperwork assemebled to do this but just need to get it going. You've inspired me.
Congratulations! That is wonderful. My husband and I have been discussing re-adoption. Would you mind answering some questions for us, seeing how we are both from NorCal? If so, please email me at dgodwin77@frontiernet.net.
Thanks!!
