My son, the Hobbit

Every morning before preschool, Jeff prepares breakfast for the kids while I monitor their morning chores. Usually it is a nice spread, with cereal and fruit somedays, and pancakes or eggs others. Breakfast is Eamon's favorite meal, and he eats it with gusto.

The other day, after a particularly filling pancake breakfast, Jeff packed Eamon and Vika into the car and headed off to Eamon's preschool. When they brought Eamon in, Jeff noticed that the other kids were eating fluffy, scrambled eggs. After hanging up his backpack, Eamon went right to the serving table, and started scooping a mound of eggs onto a plate. He was obviously quite familiar with the routine. Jeff, in surprise asked, "He gets breakfast here?" The teacher responded, "Yes, every day! Eamon's a real good eater!"

The little punk has been two-timing us!

When Jeff told me this story later, it reminded me of the scene in "Lord of the Rings," where Pippin wants to eat breakfast. Someone mentions that they've already eaten and Pip responds, "We've had one breakfast, yes. But what about SECOND breakfast?"

I've always thought that Eamon looks a bit like a hobbit, but apparently, he has the eating habits of one too.

    That's so cute.

Actually, at my daughter's orphanage they did have first and second lunch. For their afternoon snack, they sat down at tables and chairs like it was a fourth meal of the day and they called it "second lunch". She recently told her Russian godfather over the phone that we don't feed her very often here. I wonder what he thought of that....(our girl probably eats as much as your Eamon...trust me, we're not starving her!)

you didn't know he gets breakfast? Wow that would be something I can see Kevin doing. He loves food and steals others when there is any opportunity.
