I've been living under a rock...

..so if anyone watched "Sex and the City" and could fill me in on any pertinent information about the show, I'd be grateful. I'm going to see the movie tomorrow night with some friends (who are all big fans of the show), and I've never seen a single episode. It's too late to get all the seasons on Netflix, so I'm counting on you to fill me in.

Mikhail Baryshnikov married one of the girls, right? And what's the deal with this "Mr. Big?"

    Seriously?

No. Carrie (SJP) went to France with Alexsandr (Mikhail Baryshnikov) but he was always working and she was pretty miserable.

Mr. Big has been on the show since early, early. He and Carrie have dated on and off for years. For a long time he was a total commitment-phobe and they never really had a relationship so to speak. Then he married someone else. (He and Carrie even slept together during that.) When Carrie is in Paris he finally comes to his senses and realizes she's his "one."

In the series finale, Mr. Big flew to Paris and got Carrie. It was a big knight-on-white-horse moment with a funny twist.

They never gave his character a name during the series. Carrie always calls him "Big" and they just worked around him having a name. In the finale, she finally calls him by his name. (It was John, which I thought was pretty anticlimactic. After all that build-up his name should have been something unusual!!)

    Never seen the show? Ever?
Have a drink beforehand and get yourself a big tub of popcorn.

Since Maggie gave you the lowdown on Carrie, I'll give you some info on the others:

Miranda - corporate lawyer, dated Steve (a bartender), broke up, he got cancer, she got pregnant with his kid, finally married him and they are now living in Brooklyn.

Charlotte - the eternal optimist. she married her divorce lawyer and they adopted a baby girl from China.

Samantha - she met Smith, the hot blond guy - and what started out as a fling turned into a real relationship. He stood by her through her cancer scare and recovery, and they are now living together in LA.

I hope you enjoy the movie - we're having a girls night next week to go see it.

    Happy Friday!

    Le sigh.

I think it's about 4 girls who have sex and live in a big city.

I'm dying to see the movie (LOVED the show.) I'm so bummed I'm on call this weekend and have to wait. :(

I'll be interested to know what you think of it going in cold. (Although the girls here have given you a good primer.)

I used to love it then, ehn kind of lost it. But Entertainment Weekly did an episode guide - you should be able to find it on line. I read it yesterday for my Girls Night Tomorrow, we're doing the same thing!

A rock indeed! Well if you like the movie, then definitely go rent past episodes, then watch them all while drinking Cosmopolitans.

    Mr. Big is a hunkster.

Charlotte had some great episodes about not being able to have a kid. Miranda is kind of whiny in my book and Samantha is just completely over the top! It's like a good cheesy romance book - a guilty pleasure for sure.

    Enjoy!
