Mama Needs New Shoes

I'm not what you would call an impulsive spender. I do like to buy clothes and shoes, quite a bit actually. But I don't buy expensive stuff, and always consider each purchase very carefully. Often, I will carry something around the store, and get to the checkout line, only to rush back to the rack to put away the piece of clothing I've now deemed unnecessary.

The other day, while out shopping for some bathroom accessories, I became distracted by the shoe aisle. Naturally, I had to browse through all the footwear available in my size. There was nothing too special, really, except one pair of shoes that kept catching my eye. They were these funky, denim-sneaker-mary-jane things with metallic camouflage interior. Not exactly what you would call stylish, and yet I knew they would be mine. I quickly brought them to the cashier and purchased them before I could change my mind.

When I got home, I put the shoes upstairs and kind of "hid" them by the bed. I knew Jeff would see them eventually, but I wanted to delay his discovery as long as possible. Not that he would disapprove of my buying shoes, but I wasn't sure if he would appreciate the style of this particular pair. The plan was foiled when Jeff got home from work and went upstairs to change. He soon came back downstairs, wearing a smirky grin, dropped the shoes in front of me and said, "You've got to be kidding me!"

Apparently, he doesn't think they're as cute as I do.

Oh well, you can't please everyone, right? I think I'll be wearing these shoes exclusively for the next few days. Perhaps with increased exposure, they will grow on Jeff. At the very least, I may get some satisfaction knowing that the sight of them is driving him insane.

This from the girl who had one pair of shoes during all of junior high - I think they were yellow Converse hightops!!

Yes, they were yellow converse high tops (bleached to achieve just the right fade), and I still have them.

I also think you're hilarious, as driving hunny crazy is something I'm quite good at!

See, the toes on these remind me of converse, so I'm not surprised. I've got my (black) converse high-tops from high school. ;>

My co-worker just purchased shoes very similar to the ones you have.

I just finished reading through your archives. It sounds like the kids are doing wonderful.
