Preschool Ahoy!
Today was Eamon's first day of Preschool. We brought him by yesterday to meet his teacher and classmates, and he was very withdrawn (which is unlike him - both kids are extremely social). I was a little nervous that he might be having orphanage flashbacks or abandonment anxiety, but as it turns out, he was just shy (we adoptive parents can be so over-analytical!).This morning, Eamon woke up bright and early, full of excitement about going to school. "Mama! I'm going to school, and I'm only 4! Vika couldn't go till she was 5!" As he scurried about doing his morning chores, he kept running up to hug me, and then would say with an impish grin, "I love you Mama!" The idea of turning Eamon over to complete strangers for the day was not sitting too well with me, but his enthusiasm was infectious, and soon the rest of us (even Vika!) were cheering him on for being a big school boy.
We all went to drop him off this morning, and as he hurried off, dressed as a scurvy pirate (it was costume day at school), Jeff, Vika and I felt a little sad. Vika said, "It feels strange, to be leaving without Eamon." I agreed. He's been my constant companion for so long, that I definitely missed him, with his goofy antics and on-going commentary about the day. However, Eamon needs preschool right now, not only because both Jeff and I will be working, but because it will be good for him to be around a lot of kids, make his own friends, and learn skills to prepare him for kindergarten. He's also really excited to have something that is his own.
This was very evident when Jeff went to pick him up this afternoon. Eamon was playing on the tire swing, having a great time with his new friends and teachers. His teacher said he did wonderfully today - he was very communicative, got along well with the other kids, and even took a nap (!!!!). Before he rushed down the hall to head home, Eamon said numerous good-byes and was followed by a chorus of "Bye Eamon!" from the other kids. He is definitely looking forward to tomorrow.
My little boy is growing up! *sniff*

I can't wait for preschool. Scares the heck out of me, but I know the boy needs it. Glad Eamon had a great first day.
How bittersweet. I'm glad he did well!
So glad is first day was a good one - the time goes so fast doesn't it?
I have to say I was a little worried when I first saw the picture with the striped pants - I was relieved to hear it was costume day!
I am so glad he had a great day!
You are such a great blogger with your pictures!
Pineapple always wakes up excited about preschool and anxious to go, but then always has a brief sadness (crying) when I say goodbye, but she gets over it quickly and she is always smiling when I pick her up. It has been the best thing for her.
Oh I am soooo glad it went well! What an amazing, adaptive, happy boy you have there!
Very, very cool!!
WTG Eamon!
Glad he likedit!
:)
Like Starfish, I also got a bit nervous about the outfit. Glad it was a costume. I spent much of the morning crying the first day you and your brother went to kindergarten.
sounds like a great first day! congrats to Eamon!
love the pictures. wow, he is a big boy now! they grow up right before our eyes.
Yay, Eamon!
I'm glad he had such a good day and the the separation anxiety wasn't an issue... for him anyway : )
Hope YOU a good first day, J!
